got your face on?

It’s not like I was a makeup maven pre-kids. But post kids you know I’ve made an effort if I put mascara on for you. However some occasions call for a little more than lip gloss and mascara and at those times I’m very glad that MikaOlivia opened up within walking distance of our house.

Opened by makeup artist Karin Shoji, MikaOlivia is both a makeup studio and school. So whether you need your makeup done for holiday pix or an event, or you’d like to learn how to do it yourself, Karin can help.

I recently had a shoot with Jane of Jane Photo for her City Moms series – the interview will be on her blog on January 1st. And what with the tizzy type of days we’ve had leading up to the holidays I knew I needed more than mascara to pull off a head shot so I threw myself on Karin’s mercy.

Alas, I can’t yet show you the photos until they go live on Jane’s blog, but when they do I’ll post them here as well. Karin made me look like me, just a bit smoother and more polished (and perhaps even younger?) which is all I really want from my makeup.

My next step will be to try one of her courses – when I have time! – to see if I can recreate what she did on my own. But if you do have a holiday event coming up you may want to just turn yourself over to Karin, it’s just so much easier…

One note, contact her by phone rather than email. She’s not an emailer per se.
